Jonathan Rhone, President & CEO
Jonathan is an award-winning cleantech entrepreneur, founder and former President & CEO of Nexterra Systems Corp., an internationally recognized leader in biomass gasification heat, power, and syngas systems. While leading Nexterra, he grew the company from product concept to commercialization, sales, manufacturing, and servicing of multi-million dollar energy systems. He also established strategic alliances with multi-nationals including GE and Johnson Controls. He has an extensive track record with energy and technology businesses including Dome Petroleum, Amoco Canada, and The Delphi Group. Jonathan chairs the B.C. Cleantech CEO Alliance and is a member of the B.C. Premier’s Technology Council. In 2009, he was honoured by the technology community as “B.C.’s Technology Industry Person of the Year”. Jonathan is a graduate of the University of British Columbia.
Goran Sparica, P.Eng, Senior Vice President, Engineering and Operations
With 20 years in mechanical engineering, Goran has a proven track record in industrial project execution and delivery. Prior to joining Axine, he served as the Vice President of Projects for Nexterra Systems Corp. where he led the Design, Engineering, Automation, Procurement/Logistics, and Customer Service teams. There Goran was instrumental in the project management, supply chain development, equipment fabrication, and commissioning of the Company's leading biomass energy systems and played a key role in Nexterra's product commercialization and integration strategy. Prior to Nexterra, he was a senior engineer with Glass Inc. International where he worked on engineering services and machinery for the glass industry including projects throughout Canada, the U.S., Europe, and China.
Goran holds a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Belgrade. He is a Professional Engineer and member of the Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists (APEG) of B.C.
David Harvey, M.Eng, VP Technology
David's career to date spans alternative energy and material applications with a focus on transport processes, heat transfer, electrochemistry, numerical methods, materials, and fluid dynamics. Building on his Bachelor of Engineering in Aerospace from Ryerson University and his Master's and PhD in mechanical engineering (with specific focus on electrochemistry/catalyst performance and durability), he has spent over a decade in the fuel cell industry where he led the development of novel fuel cell test hardware, development and release of an open source fuel cell simulation platform, and several large-scale, first-principles-based testing programs on catalyst and catalyst support durability. David has worked as a Senior Team Leader in the area of Fundamentals and Experimental Methods at fuel cell pioneer, Ballard Power Systems, and was co-PI on two Department of Energy (DOE) research and development projects with a total budget in excess of $7 million.
James Yates, Director, Wastewater Solutions
James is a chemical engineer with over 20 years of experience in wastewater treatment. James has a proven track record of providing performance driven treatment solutions across multiple industries, including oil & gas, food & beverage, semiconductor, chemical and refining. Prior to Axine, James worked with USP Technologies and US Filter. He is a leader in developing new wastewater technologies working with membrane systems, advanced oxidation processes and biological treatment systems.
